Chhath Puja

Krishna puja

Chhath Puja is a time-honored Hindu festival predominantly observed in the Indian states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and in Nepal. This festival is dedicated to the veneration of the Sun God (Surya) and his consort, Ushas, the goddess of dawn. It holds immense significance for the inhabitants of these regions, particularly for the people of Bihar, and is characterized by rituals performed with profound devotion and strict adherence to tradition.

The festival serves as a gesture of gratitude to the Sun God for his blessings, which encompass life, prosperity, and health. It also provides an opportunity to invoke blessings for the welfare of family members, particularly for the longevity and success of children. The Sun God is revered as the fundamental source of energy and life, and Chhath Puja acknowledges his essential contribution to the sustenance of life on Earth.

Chhath Puja is observed on the sixth day (Chhath) of the Kartika month in the Hindu lunar calendar, typically occurring in October or November, contingent upon the lunar cycle. The celebration spans a duration of four days.
